To put you in the know, Raleigh movers have come up with a list of events in Raleigh that they think will be worth your while in July.

Downtown Raleigh Food Tour – Introduce yourself to North Carolina’s dynamic cuisine after moving to Raleigh, by registering for a public food tour with Taste Carolina. Farmers Market – Get to know the people in your new community once you move to Raleigh, by visiting the downtown farmers market. Looking for some ideas to refresh the look of your new home after relocating to Raleigh, North Carolina? Raleigh movers have some easy tips for reviving the inside and outside of your new house, while maintaining your own personal style.

  1. Make your front door stand out – If you are brave, stray from the normalcy of using brown, white or black paint for your front door. Try a barn red or organic green that will reflect all of the fun and exciting things that will be going on inside your home once you move to Raleigh.
  2. Paint shelving a bold color – Artwork and mirrors are not the only things to liven up a wall. Paint a boring shelving unit a vibrant red or yellow so it stands out on a large wall. Place colorful items on the shelves to cheer up the space.
  3. Mix pieces of furniture – Get on the “upcycling” band wagon and blend furniture. For example, after Raleigh movers finish moving you in, you can buy oversized, textured dining room chairs from a consignment store and pair them with a more casual, wood dining room table. The mixture of texture, casualness and color will combine to create a homey balance. Use an area rug with like-colors to help bring the look together in your new Raleigh home.
  4. Furnish your home with multipurpose pieces – Especially if you are moving to Raleigh into a smaller home, use furniture that has more than one function. For example, a coffee table can also serve as a place to store books, pillows or blankets underneath.

If you are planning on relocating to Raleigh with teenagers who are about to become new drivers, you can breathe a little bit easier knowing that there is a new program, StreetSafe, geared towards keeping the streets of North Carolina safe. StreetSafe teaches young, inexperienced drivers how to be safer and more responsible while driving on the roads.

A hands-on driving experience, the program encourages Raleigh parents to get involved with the teaching process of how to drive, while still keeping the roads a safe place. With an instructor, students in the program can experience what it feels like to lose control of a car, how to maintain a realistic stopping distance, potential dangers for drinking and driving, and clearly understand the dangers of texting while driving through teaching simulations. Since Raleigh moving companies aim and encourage driver safety, it is exciting to see such great safety initiatives being introduced in the city.

Local Raleigh law enforcement and fire personnel serve as the instructors for the students, while judges from North Carolina teach parents how to help their kids understand the importance of driving safely. Insurance executives from the area also teach the future new drivers some important requirements for teen insurance, and your local Raleigh movers are there throughout the entire process, to help you move into your new home with no added stress – that way, you can fully focus on helping your kids learn about safe driving.

The program has proven to be successful since its inception, as evidenced by statistics from the University of North Carolina’s Highway Safety Research Center, which revealed a substantial crash reduction in the North Carolina counties where StreetSafe offers monthly classes to Raleigh youth.

The locals of Durham may have sensed an unusually uplifting feeling in the air of the city the past few days, while local Durham movers might have noticed that newcomers to the city have been receiving an unusually cheery welcome this week as well. If you have recently moved to Durham and are wondering why the city’s hospitality has spiked, it may be because the local Durham choir just found out that they will be singing backup for the Rolling Stones when they come to town this July, at the Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh. The surprise announcement stunned the members of the choir, who were given the news during one of their routine rehearsals.

Brian Schmidt, conductor of the Duke University Vespers Ensemble, shares that, “it was astounding to see their faces. Most of them thought, ‘wait, did you just say the Rolling Stones?’”

This past year, the ensemble released their first CD; a compilation of the type of music that they usually sing, which is early Renaissance-era sacred music. While the rock band’s music is a departure from what the choir usually sings, the offer is, according to Schmidt, “a great testament to the work this choir is doing. They’ve brought a lot of professionalism to the project.”

Needless to say, if you are moving to Durham before July 1st, you can find your local Durham movers and new neighbors at the Rolling Stones concert to cheer on their local choir. Expect to see everyone there – from long-term locals to fellow new Durham residents, local Durham business owners to your trusted Durham moving company after they finish moving you in.

Looking to get a little bit of fishing in, while also celebrating the Fourth of July? It turns out that you are in luck, because this upcoming holiday, everyone can fish for free throughout the state of North Carolina.

For those who are looking for something to do while their Raleigh moving company is unpacking their moving boxes and assembling furniture in their new home, this is the perfect activity for the whole family. Who knows, it might even become a new family tradition on the Fourth of July, because North Carolina has deemed the Fourth of July a free fishing day, every year from 12:01 a.m. until 11:59 p.m.

Each year, everyone in North Carolina can fish in any public body of water, without buying a fishing license or additional trout fishing license. This includes coastal waters, inland waters and any other public waters. Originally started by the N.C. General Assembly in 1994, North Carolina’s free fishing day has fallen on July 4th since then and has served as the perfect activity for families on the holiday.

In order to give fisherman a better chance of catching fish, the staff from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission routinely stocks a wide variety of fish in public waters. Anglers can fish for brook, brown and rainbow trout, walleye, muskellunge, largemouth bass, American shad, striped bass channel catfish and sunfishes.

If your family has so much fun fishing this Fourth of July, that they decide that they want to continue fishing throughout the year as a hobby, Raleigh movers suggest going to one of the additional 500 fishing and boating areas that are free and open to the public, 354 days a year.

Moving to Raleigh and don’t know what to do for this upcoming Fourth of July? Well, whether or not you are new to the area or are just looking to branch out, your local Raleigh movers have a list of some of the best things to do in Raleigh this upcoming holiday.

For the whole family, check out the fireworks display at Raleigh’s The ‘Works! Celebration at noon on Saturday, July 4. The event will have live music, rides for the kids, and a beer and wine tent. Finish the day off with fireworks at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts at 9:30 p.m.

If you are looking for something slightly different to explore while your Raleigh moving company is moving you into your new home, then the Capitol Concert is a great alternative to the typical Fourth of July show. Take your family and experience a patriotic concert that features the Raleigh Concert Band – a nonprofit that gives adult musicians a chance to perform within the community.

Looking to wear your red, white, and blue while learning something at the same time? Then the History House in Raleigh is the perfect option for you and your family! Expect to be greeted by costumed guides upon first arriving at the house, who will then take you on a tour of colonial life, with pit-stops at stations to complete old-fashioned crafts and games.

Regardless of which event you choose to attend, you and your family will have a blast taking a break from moving and watching the Fourth of July fireworks in Raleigh.

Unless you are from the research triangle area, Raleigh’s climate might take you by surprise when you first move to the area. It isn’t far enough north to experience harsh winters, and it’s not far enough south to experience harsh summers. Some might even say that it has the perfect balance. If you are moving to Raleigh, you might need to update your wardrobe in order to cover all your bases.

Winters in Raleigh are generally not too extreme. Aside from a freak winter storm, the weather is usually pretty consistent. On average, there are close to 70 nights a year that drop below freezing, while only three days a year that don’t rise above freezing. The average amount of snow that Raleigh will see a year is six inches, with an occasional ice storm.

Spring tends to be a dry time for Raleigh, as April is the driest month. As for fall, it is quite similar to spring, but with less rain. If you are moving to Raleigh, you will need a light rain coat.

During the summer, July is the hottest and wettest month, with the average temperature being 80 degrees Fahrenheit. There are on average, less than 50 days a year that the temperature will go above 90 degrees, making Raleigh a comfortable place to be during the summer.

While all of these numbers represent the averages, there are storms that pop out of nowhere on occasion. There have been occurrences of devastating tornadoes, and even some strong hurricanes. Overall, if you are moving to Raleigh, know that the weather is mild and enjoyable, but your wardrobe should still be prepared for inclement conditions that come with the changing seasons in Raleigh.

Moving away to attend college is an incredible and memorable milestone in life. Being away from home for the first time can be scary and fun at the same time. There is so much freedom to do things you’ve never done and enjoy a city you’ve never lived in before, but it can often be double edged. If you didn’t learn to discipline yourself in high school, you might figure out the hard way that you need a good amount of discipline to make it in the real world. If you are moving to Raleigh to go to college, here are some tips.

Being away from mom and dad for the first time means numerous things. Pro: no bedtime. Con: no bedtime. While it might seem great that you get to set your own sleeping schedule, you’ll soon realize that going to bed early is a gift. College students are notoriously sleep deprived and you will miss the days of going to bed at 9 p.m., and revel the rare nights you get to sleep at a decent hour. Another luxury you will no longer have: mom and dad dragging you out of bed to get to class – and in college, skipping class will only hinder your gpa and make it difficult to graduate on time.

Another aspect of moving out of your parents’ house means you don’t have to ask permission to go places. Pro: no permission. Con: no checks or balances. Most parents tell their kids “no” because they have their kid’s best interest in mind, and they want their kids to live a balanced life. In college, you can go anywhere you want, whenever you want. It’s all fun and games until you have too many absences in your class to get an A and you have to explain to your parents that you overslept half the semester because your roommate just wouldn’t let you skip that party to study. Choose wisely.
